E-Verify is a web-based system that allows employers registered on the platform to confirm the eligibility of their employees to work in the United States. Employers can verify the identity and employment eligibility of newly hired employees by electronically comparing information provided by employees on Form I-9, (employment eligibility verification), with records available to the Social Security Administration (SSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

E-Verify is a voluntary participation program for employers in some US States, but as of January 1, 2021 it goes into effect in Florida.

Employers that participate in the federal public procurement processes (with federal contracts or subcontracts) and that those contracts or subcontracts contain the E-Verify clause of the Federal Procurement Regulations (FAR), must register with E-Verify as a condition of the federal contracting.

Finally, in some instances employers may be required to participate in E-Verify as a result of a legal ruling, bur t from January 01th 2021, will be implemented in Florida.

E-Verify, which is available in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, the US Virgin Islands, as well as the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, being the E Verify the best available means of electronically confirming eligibility for employment.

E-Verify, as an Internet-based system, compares the information entered by an employer (information from an employee's Form I-9) for the verification of an employee's eligibility, with the available records existing in the Department of Homeland Security of the USA, and the Social Security Administration to confirm eligibility.

This fast and free online service, which electronically confirms an employee's information against millions of government records, provides results in as little as three to five seconds, and works with speed and accuracy.

As of the publication date of this article, it can be mentioned that E-Verify has more than 967,000 registered employers (of all sizes) and includes more than 2.4 million recruitment sites and is joined by about 1,500 (approx. ) new companies participating weekly.

And in the case of Florida?

Beginning January 1, 2021, all public employers, contractors, and subcontractors of public entities in the state of Florida must register and use E-Verify to confirm the employment eligibility of all newly hired employees.

In the official announcement about E-Verify, the following is stated: "E-Verify is committed to providing Florida businesses with the information necessary to confirm the work eligibility of newly hired employees, to help ensure a legal workforce." .
