The business climate in Chile improved from its lowest point in the second quarter of this year, and some sectors have returned to their pre-COVID-19 levels. However, uncertainty persists regarding a resurgence of the new coronavirus.

According to the Central Bank, the largest companies have performed better, in contrast to the smallest ones, while trade shows increases throughout the country helped by income support measures and by the partial withdrawal of funds from pensions approved in August.

"In any case, the uncertainty associated with the possible outbreaks of the pandemic and the political-social situation and especially the resurgence of episodes of violence, are relevant factors to contain the hiring and investment decisions", referred to the 'Perception report of business'.

It should be noted that in March the pandemic broke out, forcing the closure of shops, services and schools, among other measures, which had a harsh effect on unemployment, which reached its highest levels in a decade.

In this sense, the agency's report pointed out that the labor market looks more stable, showing "fewer layoffs and the gradual reincorporation of workers with suspended contracts," although with few new hires.

Thus, manufacturing has performed better, contrary to the performance of service companies, which require face-to-face contact with the public. And in mining, large investment projects have been resumed, which has given a boost to suppliers in the sector.
