Chile will be the center of the conversation about green hydrogen on November 3-4 thanks to the "Chile 2020: Green Hydrogen Summit". It is the largest event dedicated to green hydrogen in Latin America and one of the main open access digital conferences on the subject.

Organized by the Ministry of Energy, Corfo and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), this virtual meeting will bring together representatives of governments, experts and companies that are leading the development of this industry worldwide.

The program will be divided into two days: the first dedicated to the exchange of experiences and good practices between governments, companies and international organizations, in order to join forces for the creation of a global green hydrogen economy. The second, focused on business-to-business, will address technical talks, business conferences and networking between companies.

«The Congress aims to continue positioning Chile as a leader in the production and export of green hydrogen, highlighting the potential of our country and its competitive advantages. This new fuel has the virtue of contributing strongly to the fight against climate change and it is also a real opportunity to become a "new pole of progress and well-being for Chile and Chileans", highlights the Minister of Energy, Juan Carlos Jobet.

In addition, the authority adds: «Chile's leadership in sustainability and clean energy will be a pillar of sustainable economic recovery, a source of development, progress and employment for the regions, and will position the country's export products, due to the reduction of the impact of the carbon footprint. Thus, the green hydrogen industry in Chile has the potential to acquire the same importance as copper mining.

For his part, the executive vice president of Corfo, Pablo Terrazas, points out that “the current contingency has made the world focus on the need for a sustainable reactivation, and in this sense, green hydrogen and its economic and social potential, as well as environmental , stands as a fundamental matter to travel down that path. In this congress we hope to summon more than 5,000 people and provoke synergies, coordination and collaborations to join efforts in promoting this energy that, without a doubt, will be essential to meet all the challenges that as a country and world we have outlined to contribute to carbon neutrality and to generate more and more opportunities for society as a whole ”.

Zero carbon
The path to a zero carbon footprint requires planning. The energy transition that will replace fossil fuels with more environmentally friendly alternatives will be in charge of the Ministry of Energy, which will present the National Green Hydrogen Strategy, with a short and long-term plan.

Although hydrogen is already used as industrial gas, its sustainable variable - which is produced through an electrolysis process, separating the water molecule into hydrogen and oxygen atoms, using renewable sources - is an efficient way to replace polluting fuels with green alternatives in the medium term.

Its high energy storage capacity, its lightness, the safety of its use and low water consumption make green hydrogen an attractive alternative to nourish the country's energy matrix. It will also help mitigate the carbon footprint locally and internationally.

Attendance at the Congress forums and technology fair - which is sponsored by the European Union, within the framework of COP 25, and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) - will be open to the public free of charge. Companies interested in participating in the business roundtables must apply by completing a form.
