The most hopeful believe that it is the beginning of the end. Miami, the city most affected by COVID 19 in the state of Florida, received the first 20 thousand doses of the vaccine produced by Pfizer-BioNTech. The first shipment arrived at Jackson Memorial Hospital, the main public hospital and the largest in the region.

The authorities had weeks to program this day, therefore as soon as the refrigerated truck arrived with the doses, an approved protocol was established. As state guidelines based on CDC (Center for Disease Control) recommendations indicate, the first to receive the vaccine are among the ranks of medical workers who are most exposed to the virus.

In the early afternoon, Dr. David Woosley - emergency physician -, Dr. Hansel Tookes - specialist in infectious diseases -, Dr. David de la Zerda - intensive care physician -, nurse Grace Meatley, nurse Yaimara Cruz , respiratory therapist Elizabeth Plasencia and environmental worker Armando Acosta received their first dose. They all work at Jackson Memorial Hospital and have been battling the pandemic for nine months.

Grace Meatley was the first to offer her arm, and the entire room (where there were a dozen people and only one press room to prevent crowding in a confined space) erupted in applause.
