New opportunities for innovation and better ties with consumers are the benefits of the new digital era, which has been driven by consumer habits that have resulted from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Under this premise, Mastercard reinforced its services in innovation and technology issues, with the aim of promoting available digital solutions and satisfying the most marked changes in consumer purchasing habits, due to the increase in the use of online banking, mobile and 100% digital financial platforms.

Since the pandemic, 37% of consumers in Latin America are buying more online, while 48% believe they will make less physical purchases once the situation normalizes and 12% are shopping online for the first time.

“The new trends in the market are here to stay. To enable more people to buy and pay online, we will continue to invest in the digitization of the payments ecosystem in the region, ”said Mastercard Divisional President for Mexico and Central America, Jorge Noguera.

Electronic commerce takes a greater presence in the consumption habits of Latin Americans, with increases of almost 40% in online time, the preference for mobile devices and less mobilization.

Likewise, e-commerce became the strategic ally of small and medium-sized companies that were forced to migrate their business to a virtual format, to maintain their stability and the satisfaction of their clients and to be able to position themselves in the new commercial reality.

Another business challenge is staying with consumer tastes. Studies reveal that 40% of users prefer to consume brands that have a clear purpose and 58% are willing to pay more for those brands.

To optimize the experience and maintain the buying pattern, Mastercard works on a sustainability card that allows people to keep track of their carbon footprint, based on their purchase record.

Another of the effects that the pandemic left on the commercial ecosystem is the search for greater security in transactions, which is why 35% of Latinos increased the use of Contactless payment technology, due to advantages such as more simplicity, protection and hygiene.
